Great card, obviously from the 50's. To the right, you can see what was then the only source of fresh water to the lower Keys. Trying to recall the days at Jewfish Creek in upper Key Largo, when we used to "walk the pipe" in order to get to a decent fishing platform, I would say that the pipe was about 24" in diameter. The supply of fresh water is a real issue in the Keys today, as well as the disposal of waste water. The offshore reefs as well as the fisheries are suffering from effluent. Some beaches are posting warnings that the waters are not safe for swimming.
