Anyone who has taken a cruise ship from Miami to the Caribbean has gone through Government Cut, the channel that separates the southern tip of Miami Beach from Fisher Island. Years ago, when this area was home to the Miami Beach Kennel Club, these slippery jetties were traversed by fishermen (and women). Snook, tarpon and a variety of fish were abundant. I recall once, from the old wooden fishing pier maybe a few hundred yards north of here, someone landing a 14 foot hammerhead shark, just feet from swimmers. The jetties are now underneath a paved fishing platform, obviously designed by a NON-fisherman.
