Lummus
Park and Ocean Drive. Fueled by such visionaries as Linda Polansky (owner
of the ),
South Miami Beach has finally been reclaimed. Long gone are the days when
Time magazine called South Florida a "Paradise Lost", the beach
is HAPPENING. I do miss the post Mariel-boatlift, pre Miami Vice days
though, where a room on Ocean Drive at the Shore Park or Pelican could
be had for $50 a week, a beer at the Club Deuce for about a buck, and
a Cafe Cubano for a quarter. The jetties in the background of this shot
are the same ones seen a few cards earlier, where the Miami Beach Kennel
Club used to be located.
