To a native Miamian, this is such a beautiful image. I have often wondered what the waters looked like, when the free flow from the Everglades ran all the way through to Biscayne Bay unobstructed. Actually, the word Miami is from the local indians, meaning "sweet water". Even as a kid in the early 60's, I recall a village of Seminoles still living on the river around 27th avenue.

Today, the river is still colorful, but in a different way. Brightly colored tramp freighters headed to and from Haiti, loaded to the gills with old mattresses, bicycles and 5 gallon pails. A few of the fisheries are still on the river.
