This image should bring back fond memories to anyone having a history in Miami. Prior to it's demolition, Pier 5 was truly as asset to Miami's waterfront. Located on the northern end of Bayfront Park, it was home to the fleet of charter and drift fishing boats. The locals would congregate there at day's end to purchase fresh catch, or simply to watch the show. This wonderfully colorful pier was demolished, only to be replaced with a "cookie-cutter" waterfront, the kind that you could find in practically any city. Character, personality and charm were no match for the promise of increased tourism and economic viability. |
